From a World Class Team

At YYS, students are given coaching by a world class team of musicians, specialising in education. The course gives an intense and exciting week of rehearsals and in depth sectional rehearsals, based in the stunning Leeds town hall.

YYS is delighted to welcome back acclaimed conductor Tom Hammond to our 2018 course. An Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, Tom specialises in educational projects, conducting the Palestine Youth Orchestra, the Ingenium Academy – International Summer School for Music and is a former Principal Conductor at the Junior Royal Academy.

At YYS we are privileged to welcome a world class team of musicians to lead our sectional rehearsals. They come from institutions from all over Europe, including; London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra European String Teachers’ Association, Royal Northern College of Music, Royal Academy of Music, Opera North, Scottish Opera, Ingenium Academy, Edward Said National Conservatory of Music (Jerusalem). The course allows for a large amount of contact time with tutors, resulting in students getting the most out of their experience.

Esther Abrami

Soloist

Described as a ‘rising star’ by the Strings Magazine, Esther has performed in world renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall in New-York, the Royal Festival Hall and the Barbican Centre in London. Her most recent performances as a soloist include a recital at the British Embassy in Paris and a concert with the Brooklyn Metro Chamber Orchestra in New-York where she played on a Girolamo Amati I, Cremona 1617 violin kindly lent by Florian Leonhard Fine Violins.

She was recently invited to perform at Classic FM studios.

Esther has been awarded a first prize at the Vatelot Rampal violin competition, and at The Arts of Instrumental Performance Concert Series “The Arts of Strings”. She has recently won the Golden Classical Music Awards International Competition 2017.

With over 100,000 followers across her social media channels Esther’s ever-growing following has led her to become an ambassador for renowned music related brands such as D’Addario Orchestral, Newzik and Beaumont Music as well as for fashion luxury brands including Yves Saint-Laurent, Lancôme, Daniel Wellington and The Kooples.

Born in France in 1996, Esther graduated from the Aix-en-Provence Conservatoire at the age of 14 and continued her studies at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester. In 2015, Esther began her undergraduate degree at the Royal College of Music in London and currently studies with Leonid Kerbel.

She has had the privilege of working with many distinguished musicians such as Shmuel Ashkenasi, Alexander Markov, Regina Carter, and Charlie Siem.

Esther plays on a Carlo Giuseppe Testore of Milan violin, dated ca. 1700, label Giovanni Grancino.

Tom Hammond

Conductor

Tom Hammond was the first Sir Charles Mackerras Fellow in Conducting at Trinity Laban conservatoire of Music and Dance (2006-08), made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in 2011, and in 2012 was appointed Charter Fellow in Conducting at Keele University (2012-2015).

Tom is Artistic Director of sound collective, the acclaimed professional ensemble and production organisation based in London. He also maintains a busy schedule of rehearsals and concerts as Music Director Sinfonia Tamesa (London), the Essex Symphony Orchestra and Hertford Symphony Orchestra, as well as being a regular Guest with many others ensembles.

A former Principal Conductor at the Junior Royal Academy of Music, Tom is regularly invited to conduct many student orchestras and ensembles including the Palestine Youth Orchestra, with whom he directed acclaimed concerts in Jordan in 2012 and returned to conduct in 2014. He is also a popular leader of the instrumental course at the Ingenium Academy International Summer School, designs and leads education projects, family concerts, talks and musical explorations.
